Volunteer Experience

Volunteering to me is about dedicating my time to helping others and making my community better. I have a strong internal drive to make a positive impact on Sudbury and beyond. Volunteering has opened my eyes to the needs and challenges of others. It has also enriched my own life through building connections and friendships that form when working for a common cause.

Throughout the years, I have dedicated time and energy to help those who are less fortunate. As a volunteer for the Maine Volunteer Lawyer’s project, I facilitated free legal advice and services for people who could not otherwise afford it. At the United Nations Human Rights Commission in Geneva, Switzerland, I designed and implemented press briefings and working groups between UN staff and Non-Governmental Organizations, reporting on human rights violations around the world. As a Red Cross volunteer, I helped with outreach to new volunteers to aid with the organization’s disaster relief efforts.

One of my proudest volunteer roles has been working with children and young adults.  Through Girls on the Run, an organization dedicated to building the self-confidence of adolescent girls through running, I organized and promoted a road race for the young participants to use their new skills.  As a former collegiate runner, I understand the dedication needed and the pride that comes from achieving a goal of a well-run race.

In Sudbury, I am proud to serve on the Select Board, Community Preservation Committee, and recently, the  Master Plan Steering Committee.   With three school-aged children, I often volunteer with our local schools and sports and recreation activities.  I am a member of the Sudbury United Methodist Church and serve as Co-Chair of its Social Justice Commission, a group focused on addressing racial injustice, LGBTQIA inequality, economic disparities, and climate change/environment issues.

As a part of Sudbury Family Network, I served as Sponsorship Coordinator, the liaison between Sudbury’s business and service community and the Family Network. I recruited sponsors to help fund the group’s activities, while providing these sponsors marketing access to network members. Through this opportunity, I expanded my knowledge of Sudbury’s local business community.

For me personally, I consider volunteer work to be an important pillar in my life, needed for me to feel fulfilled and productive as a citizen.
